Your Treatment Plan

Here at A Healing Stone Therapeutic Massage Center, not all modalities will be used, but these are some of the modalities that may be used when creating a treatment plan for you.  Seldom is an entire treatment done in only one modality but rather many may be used within a single session.  This information is to inform you about each modality the therapist may use within the session created for you.

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage is what most people think of when they envision a relaxing massage.  The work is primarily done in the superficial tissues of the body.  It is a very relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork. It combines oils or lotion with an array of strokes such as rolling, kneading, and percussion to help the body improve its circulation. The benefits of this type of bodywork are wide-ranging and include relief from aches and pains, decreased stress levels in the body, enhanced mental clarity, improved appearance, and greater flexibility.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body, it should not be confused with a therapist using deep or firm pressure.  It's called Deep tissue massage because of the layer of muscle we are working on, it is has nothing to do with how hard we push.  Deep Tissue Massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. When we talk about making structure changes this is one way in which we begin that process.  Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don't get too uncomfortable. Keep in mind that soreness is pretty common after the treatment, and that plenty of water should be ingested to aid with the flushing and removal of toxins that will have been released from the deep tissue during the session.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial release is a form of soft tissue therapy intended to eliminate pain, increase range of motion, and rebalance the entire body. It does this by using massage techniques to stretch the fascia and release the bonds that exist between the fascia, muscles and bones. Fascia is the connective tissue that connects and covers all muscles, organs, and skeletal structures of the body. Direct myofascial release is sometimes known as deep tissue work. Indirect release applies light pressure and gently stretches the fascia; this allows for increased blood circulation and relief from pain.

Sports Massage

Sports Massage is a type of massage designed for highly active people who engage in athletics. Engaging in sports is harsh on the body and can often lead to injuries in both the short and long term. Sports Massage enhances performance and prolongs a sports career by helping to prevent injury, reduce pains and swelling in the body, relax the mind, increase flexibility, and dramatically improve recovery rates. Sports Massage is also highly effective in aiding the rapid recovery of an athlete from an injury by encouraging greater kinesthetic awareness and in turn promoting the body's natural immune function.

Active Isolated Stretching

Developed by Aaron Mattes, Active Isolated Stretching (AIS) is a dynamic system for improving your flexibility and overall well-being. As you probably already know, stretching your muscles not only reduces your chance of injury, but also strengthens your tendons and improves your circulation.

Aromatherapy/Raindrop Thechnique

Aromatherapy is the art and science of using natural distilled extracts from aromatic plants called essential oils in healing the mind, body and spirit. It is one of the great untapped resources of the world.  Concentrated essences of flowers, fruits, herbs, and plants have been used for centuries around the world. Modern science has proven that essential oils are potent and have remarkable medicinal properties.  Adding these into a massage session have proven very helpful with many ailments.

Georgann Bastecki is our in house aromatherapy specialist.  She has spent 2 years studying the art of aromatherapy.  Since not all oils are created equal she uses only Young Living oils so that she can be assured of their therapeutic qualities.

Using the Young Living Oils Georgann can do therapy using what is known as Raindrop Technique.  Raindrop  Technique uses Essential Oils on the back and spinal reflex points of the feet to bring structure and electrical alignment to the body in a relaxing and invigorating manner.  The essential oils enhance cellular communication and restore physical and emotional wellness.

Pregnancy Massage

If you are booking a Pregnancy Massage please be sure to book with Georgann or Lenora.

Pregnancy Massage is a style of bodywork designed specifically for pregnant women. Pregnancy is a time when a woman's body endures tremendous stress due to dramatic physical and emotional changes. Using various techniques specially developed for the expecting mother, Pregnancy Massage helps release the pain and discomfort experienced throughout pregnancy. The benefits are profound, including emotional support, the relief of joint pain due to extra weight and postural imbalance, and improved breathing and relaxation.

Massage has been shown to help mom relax between contractions, reducing pain from tight muscles and providing important emotional support and encouragement.  Since it's not always and option to have a professional massage therapist present during labor, often times couples will meet with a therapist a few times before then for private lessons to learn simple techniques that your partner can use during the labor process.

After baby has joined the world, mom may find postpartum massage a good option to help ease the physical demands of caring for a newborn.

Hot Stone Therapy

This is a service that not all of our therapists offer so please book with Tiffany if you would like this service.

Hot Stone Therapy is a style of massage where heated stones are placed at specific sites on your body to deepen relaxation and promote circulation in your muscles. Muscles that are heated with these stones release tension and stress much more deeply and quickly than with a traditional massage. The overall experience is very relaxing, nurturing, and rejuvenating.

IntraOral Massage for TMJD

Intraoral massage is massage done inside the mouth.  It is a procedure performed by a Certified Massage Therapist for clients with TMJD. This procedure should only be performed by Therapist with advanced training , certification and knowledge of the facial muscles and nerves.  It is administered by placing gloves on the hand and opening the patient's mouth, massaging the muscles, ligament, and tendons inside the mouth to relieve the pain from TMJD.  The therapist often times will also work outside the mouth on the muscles of the face, neck, and head to release not only the muscles but small trigger points as well.

Georgann is the Therapist in our office that is certified in this work.  She is not only a Massage Therapist but has been a Registered Dental Hygienist for more than 20 years.  This work is a natural extension of the work she has spent a lifetime doing and gives her a unique perspective and deep understanding of what many TMJD sufferers experience.
